The Founder
Mr. Desmond Tong is the Founder and controlling shareholder of Bergenia Group. He was first appointed to the Board in 2022 and currently serves as Executive Director, Group Managing Director and a member of the Group’s Innovation Committee. He is also a director of all subsidiaries within the Group.
With over 20 years of leadership experience in the healthcare sector, Desmond has dedicated his career to advancing care standards and improving client outcomes. His leadership is guided by a deep belief that healthcare is not merely a service but a responsibility — one that must be delivered with compassion, integrity and respect for every individual.
As Executive Director and Group Managing Director, Desmond oversees the Group’s overall management, including business development, operations and strategic growth. However, at the heart of his leadership, is a commitment to ensuring that every decision ultimately benefits clients and their families. He believes that quality healthcare must combine clinical excellence with empathy, dignity and innovation.
Desmond actively champions the responsible adoption of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and robotics, particularly in the field of dialysis care. For him, innovation is not pursued for its own sake but as a means to enhance client’s safety, improve treatment outcomes and create more efficient, accessible care environments.
Under his stewardship, Bergenia Healthcare continues to strengthen its culture of accountability, teamwork and service excellence. Desmond remains committed to building a healthcare organisation where compassion and innovation work hand in hand — shaping a future where clients receive not only the best possible treatment but also the care and understanding they deserve.
